I was always the lanky, scrawny kid at school and that carried on until my early 20's when I added a pot belly.

I started to play shinty at university and realised just how unfit I was. I decided to go to LA fitness Milngavie and fell in love with the weights section but ignored the cardio.

At first I was a typical guy, lifting too much weight with poor form. I put on muscle but it was not balanced, for example I don't remember working my legs for about 3 years and my back was humped from too many narrow grip pull downs. The lack of cardio meant I was still fat.

Over the next few years I took a 1-2-1  Personal Trainer session every few months with Steven. He initially improved the range of exercises I was doing and later helped me to learn more compound exercises like the dead lift, squat and clean.

I started to see results in my physique after about 6-8weeks and I was able to increase my weights most weeks. Working towards my goals was brilliant. I'm sure you have all seen the Rocky training montages.

My training is still a work in progress, but I am rid of the pot belly and lifting respectable weights. No one has called me lanky in a long time. I now feel confident and relaxed but still motivated to achieve more next year.

My advice to others working towards their goals would be to get the advice I got straight away. I wasted the best part of 5 years through a lack of knowledge. Getting the advice straight away from the fitness team means the results will come so much quicker.
