I was diagnosed with suspected Celiacs disease which was then confirmed a little over a year ago when I slipped and fell shattering my leg.
I became immobilised and very miserable over the following months and as you can imagine I was very scared about how I would cope with walking again.
After 6 months I managed to get back to LA fitness Liverpool where I started to use the pool for support and buoyancy, walking and moving in the water to assist my muscle strength and recovery. This is where I began to get to meet the Fitness Team a little better, who provided me with a lot of support and guidance in a time when I needed it most. Duncan started me on a 'recovery regime' which he made sure I was sticking to during my time at the gym and also with some useful exercises to work with at home and whilst at work.
Before long I was off my crutches and using a walking stick, this really set me back as I felt old before my time. My confidence was knocked and I hit a bit of a slump and if it hadn’t been for the positive attitude and drive from Duncan and the LA fitness team I feel that I may have slipped back further.
Before long my progress up and down stairs was improving and my doctor said that I was 6 months ahead of the 2 year recovery period that he had given me. This gave me a huge boost and I worked towards reducing my limp and improving my posture which had been affected by my fall.
Now I have started in BLT classes again and I am swimming every week, I am planning to get back into 'Begin to Spin' and have even begun outdoor jogging and bike riding. I am getting back to my old self and I am so proud of my progress which seemed so far away when I started out.
My advice to anyone would be to find any one of the gym team to help you with any goal you may have, they provide excellent encouragement and direction.
