I felt that I had hit 30 in a very unhealthy, unhappy and extremely overweight way and that I didn’t want to let other people see me so I stopped socialising unless it was with my close friends. I looked unhappy and bloated and certainly felt it.

I attended a 30th birthday party mid-September 2008, and when everyone got up and danced I was the only one left at the table as I didn’t want to. A small reason perhaps for some, but for me it was the last straw. As I sat on my own watching my friends enjoy themselves and have fun I decided then to do something straight away.

I joined a slimming programme the next day and began watching my food intake closely. I started to walk to work and use a Wii fit I had at the time. I joined LA fitness Woking in March 2009 having already lost almost 4 stone.

Once I had attended my first class and fitness induction I found it became a way of life straight away. My self confidence is low anyway, but back then it was much worse at first and it was hard to go in the first few weeks however since then I have found it easy to keep up a routine.

People who work at LA fitness Woking take time to get to know you and particularly the Front of House staff, Charlie and Steph, who have both made LA fitness a place where I feel comfortable. Any questions I have are answered and both of them are a credit to the gym. I also have Personal Trainer sessions with Andy Ingham who has made my weight loss of nearly another 4 and a half stone since May possible and he is a fantastic trainer. I also attend Body pump classes and Ali, Louise, Sam and Tony all keep these classes current and dare I say it…fun!

The weight kept going down straight away but a drop in clothes sizes took maybe 2-3 months. My self confidence began to improve when I realised that I could improve my fitness with the help of Andy and my fitness routine. I began to feel that I would see more results and this in turn made me more confident in other aspects of my life. I changed jobs and this was something I felt I couldn’t do before, when you know you can attain your goals it does make you feel good.

I am at a level of fitness where I can work out in the gym or in classes without feeling unwell or feeling I can’t continue. I am also wearing clothes half of the size of that I use to. My confidence is higher and I am learning new activities in the gym such as boxing and spin. I have almost lost nine stone which is a big achievement.

Believe in what you wish for, think about what you want and see it through. Ask for help when you are ready and people will be more than willing. Even if you don’t see results straight away, keep going because you will gradually.
