Before I joined LA fitness Woking I felt ok really, my general health was pretty good and I felt reasonably fit. I used to go walking and I wasn’t restricted in anything I wanted to do. My concern was that I was reaching 50! Also the choice of clothes was getting more and more restrictive. I was a size 22 and when I looked in the mirror I didn’t like what I saw. I looked older than I was and bigger than I had ever been before.
I decided to take action in August 2007. I had nearly 7 months until my big birthday and I knew I couldn’t face that and not be happy with how I looked but that I had enough time to make a difference.
I started eating healthy and going to LA fitness Woking . I hadn’t exercised regularly for quite a long time so I decided swimming would be the best option and I went more or less every morning. I found it quite easy to keep going everyday, swimming seemed to suit me and I went first thing in the morning, showered and went straight to work.
I had a review with one of the Fitness Instructors but he couldn’t give me a set programme at first because he was concerned about my blood pressure. I had to go to my doctors and go on medication to control it however once it reduced Chris gave me a programme and was really helpful and encouraging.
I started seeing results after a couple of months, the swimming toned me up and made me fitter faster than anything else I had ever done. Working towards my goal made me feel in control, I was eating healthy and swimming became a habit to me. I felt fitter than I had for years.
I felt absolutely fabulous for my 50th birthday, I went to St Lucia a week or so after it with a whole new wardrobe of clothes and felt that the previous 6 months was so worth it. It is now just over 2 years since I started at gym and I still exercise regularly. I’m addicted to the early morning spin classes and regularly jog or swim.
When I look at the old photos I really can’t believe what I have achieved, my fitness levels are good and I have so much more energy.
I think once you have decided what your goal is you have to be focused and realise you have to change your eating habits and lifestyle. I never went on a diet, healthy eating is forever.
