Powerful Pins.

May 20, 2010

Alesha Dixon’s have been voted the best in Britain, Cristiano Ronaldo’s are insured for £90 million and this guy's in the video are responsible for keeping the world turning (apparently).

We refer of course to legs.

Summer About this time every year, the average Brit dons a pair of shorts for the first time since last autumn only to reveal a pair of pasty white pins that are in desperate need of an overhaul.

Time.

At a rough guess we’d say that less than twenty percent of weight training time in the gym is spent on strengthening legs – indeed, there are many so-called bodybuilders whose leg to upper body development is very poor. But strong, functional legs are pretty much a must for those of us who want to lead an active lifestyle and so we need to dedicate some reasonable training time to them.

Quads.

The four muscles at the front of the thigh are known as the quadriceps; they are the biggest muscle group in the body and they play a key role in generating power and stabilising the knee. They are therefore the first port of call if you are looking to strengthen and tone your legs. But you should remember that if you are working the quads you should also work the hamstrings in order to maintain muscle balance in the thigh.

Tip

Leg presses, lunges, squats and step ups are great exercises for the quads. They also provide great overall toning for the whole of the leg and the buttocks.

If you would like to give your legs a summer tune up, the LA Fitness coaches would be pleased to give you a programme that will help you tone your quads, hamstrings and calves.
