There are loads of ways in which an exercise ball can make a real difference to your programme, take a look at the video to the right at one that we suggest you don’t try at home.
The exercise ball was originally invented as a toy to help Swiss youngsters who needed physiotherapy but now they are widely used by fitness professionals to spice up workouts and enhance results. The most obvious reason for their effectiveness is that balls are round; round things tend to be unstable and when you work out on something that wobbles you have to recruit more muscle fibres to compensate.
If you are doing crunches for example A. the curvature of the ball will get you into a nice pre-stretch position to start with and will therefore prompt you to work through the full range of motion (as opposed to the nodding dog impressions we sometimes see) and B. your mid-section will have to work overtime to stay in balance. The variations are pretty much limitless so talk to one of our coaches and find out how the exercise ball can help you.
