I was feeling slightly depressed and felt that I was unfit. I decided I needed to re-vamp my lifestyle and challenge myself both physically and mentally. I wanted to ensure that for the birth of my second child I had as much energy as them and wasn't the father running out of breath chasing them. I believe that you must show your kids that it's important to stay active to improve your general health and wellbeing.

I started by watching what I was eating and cutting out the beer. I also made the decision to join LA fitness Milngavie and took up running.

At first I found it hard going and nearly passed out on the treadmills a few times, I never realised I was that unfit. As I was dedicated to achieving my goals I stuck to my plans and pushed through the initial hurdles.

The staff at LA fitness Milngavie have all been really supportive and helpful when I asked any questions or for help with my technique. Through my fitness programme I have now learnt to skip and my co-ordination has greatly improved. After about four weeks I began to notice positive changes such as being able to run further and I have a more toned physique.

Now I feel more confident and good within myself. I am in a great frame of mind and love challenging myself more and more. I am now also working towards my level 2 gym instructor qualification because I've enjoyed it so much.

My advice to others in a similar situation is to have an outgoing open attitude and always be willing to explore new avenues in life. There are no excuses, only opportunities.
